St. Petersburg Pop-Symphony Orchestra
A concert with no audience —
only participants
— About the project
Inside the Sound is an immersive concert format where the audience sits directly among the musicians. Each person hears the orchestra as the conductor does — from within the living sound.
Personal sound technology via headphones lets each listener fine-tune their own balance: more strings, closer brass, absolute silence outside — and the orchestra inside.
The project was conceived by Dmitry Malygin, Managing Director of the ESO SPb. Artistic Director — Andrey Medvedev.

— How it works
Audience members are seated inside the orchestra — between instrument groups. No stage, no distance, no separation between performers and listeners.
Each listener receives headphones with multichannel audio. The ability to adjust the instrumental balance creates a unique sonic perspective for every person.
A full concert by the St. Petersburg Pop-Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andrey Medvedev. No playback — only live music you can feel with your skin.

— Impressions
I heard the violin breathing — truly, live. There are no words for it.
Audience member · July 2025
I cried. Not because it was sad — but because I had never heard music this close.

I brought my 8-year-old. Afterwards she said: "Mum, music is alive." That says it all.
